Office Hours

Fall/Spring Semesters: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Summer Session/Semester Breaks: Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Sloss House was once used by faculty/staff as a single family dwelling and still has the feeling of a home.

First Floor Resources

The main floor has a newly rbodeled kitchen (refrigerator, microwaves, oven, dishwasher, coffee pots, some baking and serving pieces, table for 8), dining room that doubles as a meeting room that seats 16, living room that seats 12-15 (couch, comfortable chairs, library selections), sunroom with television and VCR for your use, toys, coloring books, and Legos for children (or adults), and a library containing many fiction and nonfiction books related to women's issues. The library also has video and audiotapes available. Students, staff, and faculty can check out books and tapes. In the garage the Women's Center provides lockers for students needing a place to store personal belongings throughout the day. Bring a lock and secure your belongings in an available locker space. There is no cost for this service. The main floor also has an accessible restroom.

Second Floor Resources

On the second floor you will find our offices. Our Secretary, Marcia Purdy is in the Main Office. Marcia can answer questions about the Women's Center, or refer you to our Director or Graduate Assistants. The Director's office is located through the main office. The Graduate Assistants' offices are located on the second floor also. You will also find our Lactation Room on the second floor. If you are a nursing mother (student, staff, or faculty) and you would like to continue to breastfeed your baby after returning to work or classes, please reserve time in the Lactation Room. The room contains a Medela Lactina Electric Breast Pump for your use. A connecting kit can be purchased from Mary Greeley Medical Center, (515) 239-6814. The second floor has a restroom also. The second floor of the Sloss House in not handicap accessible, but we are happy to move services and information to the main floor. Please contact the Women's Center prior to arriving so we can ensure that we can meet your needs.

Resource Rack

The Margaret Sloss Women's Center is a wonderful place to begin researching a topic or getting information on other services directed at meeting the needs of women. We have a resource rack on the main floor full of useful information. Our staff can also provide handouts, statistics, and more on programming topics.

Wireless Connection and Laptop Reservations

The Margaret Sloss Women's Center received a Computation Advisory Committee Grant in 2004 to be used to make the Sloss House more computer friendly to students. The house now has wireless connection to the Internet, a desktop computer and printer in the Sloss House, Wealtha Biever Library, and eight lap top computers that can be checked on in two hour blocks of time.
