Constitution of the Iowa State University Parents Association
Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall be the Iowa State University Parents' Association.
Article II: Purpose
The organization is formed for the purpose of:
- Providing a support network for the families of Iowa State University (ISU) students.
- Supporting the programs, activities and mission of ISU.
- Enhancing communication between the University and the families of ISU students.
- Offering family members the opportunity to enhance the quality of their students' educational and cultural experiences.
- Promoting University programs and services that best meet the needs of ISU students and their families.
Article III: Membership
- Membership in the association is automatic to all parents and legal guardians of current ISU students.
- No dues required, however contributions are accepted.
Article IV: Board of Directors
- Board of Directors shall conduct all business.
- The Board of Directors shall represent regional diversity of ISU student family units, the majority of which shall reside in Iowa.
- The Board shall not exceed thirty-six voting members.
- The membership committee shall select the Board of Directors for a term of three years with one-third of the Board being selected each year.
- Membership year is defined as July 1 to June 30.
- Officers for the Board of Directors shall consist of a president or co-presidents, president-elect or co-presidents elect, and secretary-treasurer or co-secretary-treasurers. Nominations for officers shall be made by the membership committee and/or from the floor at the mid-winter meeting. The officers shall be elected not later than the spring meeting by those present and the officers and new Board of Directors shall assume the duties of the office at that time.
- The office of president or co-presidents shall be for one year.
- The president-elect or co-presidents elect shall succeed to the office of president or co-presidents immediately following the one-year term as president-elect or co-presidents elect.
- An executive committee shall consist of the officers of the Board of Directors.
- Any board member may be removed from office for good cause upon the vote of two-thirds of the board members present at a meeting where a quorum of board members exists.
Article V: Committees:
- The executive committee shall be held responsible to the Board of Directors, but shall be empowered with authority to make necessary decisions between Board of Directors meetings.
- Standing committees shall be established by the Board of Directors to fulfill the purposes of the Iowa State University Parents' Association. The president or co-presidents with the approval of the executive committee shall select members of the standing committees.
- Each board member shall be active on at least one association committee.
Article VI: Meetings
- Board of Director meetings shall be held at least three times an academic year.
- Meetings of the executive committee shall be called at the discretion of the president or co-presidents.
Article VII: Affiliations
- The Iowa State University Parents' Association shall be considered a subsidiary organization of the Iowa State University Dean of Students Office.
Article VIII: Adoption of the Constitution and Amendments to the Constitution
- The constitution of the Iowa State University Parents' Association shall need a two-thirds vote of the Board of Directors of the association to be adopted.
- Amendments to the constitution of the Iowa State University Parents' Association shall need a two-thirds vote of the Board of Directors of the association for passage.
