Secure a J.O. B. with the MSA Work Study Program
What is the MSA Work Study Program?An opportunity for students to develop office skills and diversity education through part time employment.
Who can become an MSA Work Study Student?
The program is open to any sophomore, junior, and senior who is work-study eligible.
- Be currently enrolled full time and have a FAFSA on file at Iowa State University.
- Be approved for the federal work study program.
- Have sophomore, junior, and senior standing.
- Have at least a cumulative GPA of 2.25 at the time of application.
What does the MSA Work Study position entail?
Specific responsibilities may include:
- Sign in students and guests daily
- Upkeep student walk-in database and submit weekly reports on MSA traffic
- Assist in the programming of MSA bulletin boards
- File, fax, and copy documents as needed
- Run errands as needed
- Serve as an assistant to the MSA Secretaries for mailings, birthday emails, etc.
- Manage reception area and front desk phone in secretary’s absence or as needed
Availability, knowledge and skills required:
- Able to work 10-15 hours per week
- Excellent written communication skills
- Typing proficiency of at least 35 wpm
- Organizational and note taking skills
- Attention to detail
- Understanding of Multicultural Student Affairs office and culture
- Highly motivated self-starter willing to work in a high-energy environment
- Committed to diversity education and awareness at Iowa State University
How does one apply for the MSA Work Study Program?
- Students apply in person at 2080 Student Services Building.
- MSA notifies students by email for interviews.
- Two students are selected to participate in the MSA Work Study Program each year.
- Upon being selected, MSA Work Study students complete a two-hour training
