AFRICAN AMERICAN ALUMNI MENTOR PROGRAM (info | application)

The African American Alumni Mentor Program is a collaborative effort between MSA and the ISU Alumni Association.
African American Alumni are matched to currently enrolled African American students at Iowa State University in similar majors or with similar experiences. The program offers the following benefits:

• Opportunities for Alumni mentors to share insights with ISU students
• A meaningful way to connect ISU Alumni and ISU students
• Better understanding of global, cultural, workplace, and diversity issues
• Increase in the academic success, persistence, retention, and graduation of ISU African American students

MSA TUTORING PROGRAM

In collaboration with the ISU Academic Success Center and each of the academic colleges, MSA provides subsidized tutoring for African American, Latino American, Asian American, American Indian, and Bi/Multiracial students at Iowa State University. Students initiate request for tutoring and the college Multicultural Liaison Officers (MLOs) assess the student's academic status and assist in the tutoring service and application process.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. EMERGENCY LOAN PROGRAM (apply)

The MSA Martin Luther King Jr. Emergency Loan is an interest-free 30-day loan designed to address extenuating financial situations that may likely affect a student's educational goals. The loan is initiated through and processed by the college Multicultural Liaison Officers (MLOs). A limited amount of funding is available and set-aside for borrowing each year. Availability of funds is based on currently established MSA Office requirements and a needs assessment.
