ISU Coming Out Week

October 11th is recognized across the United States as National Coming Out Day. The LGBTA Alliance, Gamma Rho Lambda, and the LGBT Student Services Center are joining together to provide the Iowa State University community with a week of events to raise awareness and celebrate the coming out process. Blood is Blood: Tabling for Awareness of FDA Ban

Location: Great Hall, Memorial Union

Time: 11:00am - 2:00pm

Sponsor: Gamma Rho Lambda

Description: Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer and Ally (LGBTQA) organizations and leaders across Iowa State are raising awareness of the United States Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) ban on gay and bisexual men donating blood. All are welcome and encouraged to visit the Blood is Blood booth outside of the Iowa State Blood Drive to receive more information regarding the ban and the impact on individuals across the country. Tabling will occur Monday through Thursday at the same time and location.

OUT and Craftacular

Description: Join members of the LGBTA Alliance to create posters for the coming out rally to be held on Friday. Also, explore new crafting ideas that enhance LGBTQA visibility and show our pride across campus while making new friends!

 

Greek Community Safe Chapter Town Hall Meeting

Location: 124 Ross Hall

Description: You are invited to the Greek Community Safe Chapter Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, October 8th at 7:00 PM in 124 Ross Hall. The event will reveal the data from the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) Awareness Survey that Greek chapters completed last spring. The purpose is to learn about how the Greek Community scored regarding acceptance to the LGBTQ Community; become aware of the initiatives sponsored by the Office of Greek Affairs to build safe and inclusive chapters; and offer your input regarding steps to move forward. #Out2Lunch Series: Coming Out LGBTQA

Location: LGBTSS Center, 1064 Student Services Building

Description: Join LGBTSS staff, along with other presenters, in exploring the coming out process with the #Out2Lunch Session: Coming Out LGBTQA (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer Ally). During the session, individuals will gain a better understanding of the challenges and successes involved in the coming out process, strategies for supporting LGBTQA Iowa State students going through the coming out process, and explore how intersecting identities can impact the coming out process. Bring your lunch and join the crowd!
