Whitney Rock

Currently Tutoring: Chem 177 and Math 166

Why I became a tutor leader: To make sure new and existing tutors have a good learning experience and that they have the resources to become excellent tutors.

My advice for new Tutors: Make sure you know that your role is as a tutor and not as a professor. The reason many students obtain a tutor is because they can't learn in a lecture, so you need to make up new and different ways to engage and teach different students.

Nirav Patel

Currently Tutoring: Chemistry 163

Why I became a tutor leader: To meet and get to know different people, and to create and organize various fun activities to help fellow tutors perform better at their sessions.

My advice for new Tutors: Be enthusiastic when teaching, and let the enthusiasm spread to your tutees.

Blake Hasenmiller

Currently Tutoring: Math 165, 166

Why I became a tutor leader: To help make a difference in the tutoring program and improve my own tutoring skills.

My advice for new Tutors: Keep things relaxed and informal. Enjoy yourself.

Andrea Herrick

Currently Tutoring: Biology, Psychology, Philosophy

Why I became a tutor leader: To meet more people, work on leadership skills, and build my resume.

My advice for new Tutors: patient. If you build a rapport with your students, that will make the sessions go more smoothly and might make it easier to help them learn.

Ziwei Just

Currently Tutoring: Chemistry 332

Why I became a tutor leader: To learn more about teaching skills and prepare for future teaching.

My advice for new Tutors: Attend the training provided, they are very helpful.

Devin Lu

Currently Tutoring: Math 140, 151

Why I became a tutor leader: To build resume.

My advice for new Tutors: Let your tutees dictate the direction of the sessions. The entire point of tutoring is to get more individualized attention.
