Group Dynamic Issues
Suggestions for working with dominant and passive group participants.
Dominant Participants
- Reduce eye contact with individual
- Encourage others to answer questions
- (Does anyone else have any questions?)
- Talk to individual after session about meeting one-on-one if individual is dominating session.
- Determine if individual is distracting other group members.
- Remember, some students may be comfortable having another student ask questions for them.
Passive Participants
- Ask student directly if they have any questions.
- "Brad, it is your turn to ask a question."
- "Brad, what section would you like to review?"
- Increase eye contact
