Obtaining A Tutor

Do I need a Tutor?

Students request tutoring for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Addressing a temporary struggle with your course work.
  • Receiving a failing grade on an assignment and at risk of failing.
  • Feeling a need to develop more effective study habits, time management strategies, or productive study skills.
  • Desiring to enhance your study skills to excel in a particular course.
  • Failing to meet the graduation requirements or maintaining a passing GPA.
  • Hoping to earn a higher grade in a course.

How Much Does it Cost?

We understand that paying for a tutor can be a concern therefore our goal is to maintain tutoring fees at a low cost. The costs for tutoring are:

  • $5 administrative fee per semester.
  • $4 per tutoring session.

Students may be eligible to receive financial assistance to aid them with tutoring costs. A listing of funding resources is available on the tutee application.

Students may also choose to have their tutoring costs billed to their U-Bill.  If tutoring is being paid for by an outside source, you will need approval from that funding agency.

How are Tutor Groups Organized?

Tutoring groups consist of two to four students. We typically place students with the same professor in the same group but we cannot guarantee that all students will have the same professor. Students meet with their tutor two times for one hour sessions, for a total of two hours of tutoring per week per group.

During the summer terms students meet with their tutor three times a week for one hour sessions, for a total of three hours of tutoring per week per group.
