Hello! My name is Stacy. I'm originally from Lake City, IA. I am a 22 year-old senior in Biology/Pre-Optometry with minors in Psychology and English.
Outside of school, I try to get involved in campus activites. This year I'm a choreographer and dancer for Orchesis II; the Vice President for the Pre-Optometry Club; a Destination Iowa State Team Leader; and I hope to get involved with other clubs, non-profit organizations, and honor societies. I also work for America Reads/America Counts tutoring elementary children in reading and math.
I enjoy running, reading, music, photography, movies, arts and crafts, and the outdoors.
This is my 5th semester as an SI leader. Four of these semesters have been in leading Biol 212 (3 semesters with Dr. Vleck). Over previous semesters I was an SI leader for Biol 212. I took Biol 212 in Spring of 2007. I look forward to working with all of you over the semester! |
| My approach to SI Sessions: |
| Research has shown that active learning is the best way to recall information, so I make every effort to use strategies that allow active learning to take place during the SI sessions. Typically this involves a worksheet or activity which adresses vocabulary and how the words relate to concepts. I aim to ask open-ended questions on worksheets to identify which areas the students understand and which areas need clarification. Generally, I post worksheets online so students have access to all of the resources. However, I do not typically post answer keys to worksheets to increase session attendance so we can discuss the questions on the worksheet in detail. I feel that this strategy also allows students who cannot attend the sessions to fully review their notes to find the answers. I will post answers for multiple choice quizzes, practice tests, or any sort of fill-in-the-blank game. Students can always ask questions about any worksheet at any session or in class. Please don't be afraid to ask about old material. |
